WHAT TO EXPECT

FREE CONSULTATION

step 01

The complimentary 15-minute consultation is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation held via phone or secure video call. It’s a chance for you to share a little about what’s been going on, ask any questions you might have, and get a feel for how I work.

I’ll walk you through what counselling looks like, how sessions are structured, and how I can support you based on your unique needs. This time is all about helping you feel comfortable, informed, and empowered to decide whether I’m the right fit for your therapeutic journey.

STEP 02

By the time we meet for your first session, you’ll have already completed a brief online intake form—which helps me understand a bit about your background and what’s bringing you to therapy. From there, we begin gently.

Our first session is all about building our therapeutic relationship, creating a sense of emotional safety, and exploring what you’d like to get out of this journey. You don’t need to prepare anything or have it all figured out. This is your space to be supported—at your pace.

I’ll guide the process, answer any questions, and check in regularly to ensure everything feels comfortable for you. Together, we’ll start to clarify your goals and begin laying the foundation for meaningful, lasting change.

THERAPEUTIC SESSIONS

STEP 03

Each therapeutic session is a collaborative and personalised experience designed to support your goals and growth. At the start of every session, we check in using a feedback-informed approach—giving you space to share what’s working, what’s not, and how you’re feeling about the process. Your voice matters here. This ensures therapy stays aligned, effective, and centred around you.

We’ll work together to create a tailored plan that honours your needs, preferences, and the pace that feels right. While many clients begin to experience meaningful change within 10–12 sessions, the journey is unique for everyone—and we’ll adapt along the way.

Between sessions, you’ll have access to exclusive tools and resources to support integration, insight, and progress—especially during those moments that feel challenging or uncertain.

THERAPEUTIC SESSIONS

Embodied Harmony’s principal counsellor, Rebecca, is a registered counsellor in Australia with a Masters of Counselling and Honours Degree in Psychological Sciences. While both counselling and psychology aim to improve mental well-being, they have distinct focuses and methods. Here’s how they differ:

Counselling

Counsellors are trained to provide therapeutic support for a wide range of emotional, relational, and life-based challenges—such as anxiety, grief, stress, relationship issues, low self-esteem, or major life transitions. Counselling is typically collaborative, present-focused, and deeply attuned to your lived experience. It’s about creating a safe, supportive space to explore what’s going on and move toward greater clarity and wellbeing.

The emphasis in counselling is on healing through connection, empathy, and active listening, tailored to your unique needs and pace.

Psychology

Psychologists, on the other hand, have a background in psychological assessment and diagnosis, and often work with more complex or clinically diagnosed mental health conditions. They may be involved in report writing, testing, or working within clinical teams.

Psychologists typically use a research-based, diagnostic framework to understand and treat mental health issues, often in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

At Embodied Harmony, counselling is offered through a trauma-informed, evidence-based, and holistic lens—focused on supporting you through change, emotional healing, and personal growth. If at any point we feel that additional or alternative support is needed (including referral to a psychologist or GP), we’ll discuss that together to ensure the best care for you.

Rebecca brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to support your healing journey. With extensive training in psychological theories and therapeutic interventions, she draws on evidence-based practices to help you navigate emotional challenges, improve relationships, and achieve personal growth.

Still not sure which type of support is right for you? Book a free 15-minute consultation—we’ll talk it through together and make sure you’re getting the support that best fits your needs.

Counselling is a powerful support for a wide range of emotional, psychological, and relational concerns. You don’t need to be in crisis or have a formal diagnosis to benefit—counselling is for anyone who wants to feel more emotionally steady, mentally clear, and connected to themselves.

At Embodied Harmony, I work with individuals navigating challenges such as:

  • Anxiety and stress that impacts daily life
  • Depression or low mood, including feelings of emptiness, hopelessness, or emotional numbness
  • Grief and loss, including anticipatory grief or complicated grief
  • Burnout and emotional exhaustion from work, caregiving, or life pressures
  • Low self-worth or self-esteem that limits your confidence and self-expression
  • Life transitions like separation, career changes, identity shifts, or motherhood
  • Relationship challenges – including communication issues or post-separation and divorce support
  • Trauma – including developmental or relational trauma, using a trauma-informed lens
  • Emotional regulation difficulties, like overwhelm, irritability, or shutdown
  • Exploring identity, purpose, or personal values

Each session is tailored to support your unique needs and experiences, using a blend of evidence-based therapies and a mind-body-soul approach. Whether you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or simply ready to understand yourself more deeply—counselling provides a compassionate, structured space for meaningful change.

No—you don’t need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or GP referral to access counselling at Embodied Harmony.

Our services are available privately, which means:

  • You can book directly—no paperwork, no waiting, no diagnosis required
  • Your sessions are completely confidential and not recorded on medical files
  • You have the freedom to choose a counsellor who aligns with your needs and values

While some government-subsidised psychology services require a Mental Health Care Plan for Medicare rebates, counselling offers a more flexible, personalised alternative that many people find empowering and accessible—especially when exploring emotional wellbeing, self-worth, identity, or life transitions.

We have carefully structured our fees so that clients are not paying any more for mental health and wellbeing services than they would with a Medicare rebate. The Australian Psychological Society recommends psychologists charge $311 per 46-60 minute session. Our standard counselling fee is $140 per 60 minute session or $197 per 90 minute Uplift & Transform session, making our fees comparable to the typical gap fee you would pay if you were seeing a psychologist under a MHCP.

Can I Claim a Private Health Fund Rebate?

At Embodied Harmony, we are committed to offering compassionate, consistent, and accessible mental health care—and that includes honouring the time and space reserved just for you.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes plans need to change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, we kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice. This helps us offer your spot to another client who may be waiting for support at short notice.

Here’s how the policy works:

  • Cancellations or reschedules with 24+ hours’ notice: No fee
  • Less than 24 hours’ notice: 50% of the standard counselling fee applies
  • No-shows or same-day cancellations (without contact): 100% of the session fee is charged
  • Extenuating circumstances: Life happens. If something unexpected arises, just reach out—we’ll always take context into consideration.

Respecting this policy allows us to continue offering accessible, high-quality support to all clients. Thank you for your understanding.

Your sessions are strictly confidential and will not be released outside of Embodied Harmony without your permission. The only time a counsellor may release information is if they believe you are at risk of harm, if you have provided consent to share information with a third party, or if subpoenaed by a court of law.
